A deck of cards is introduced, and three spectators are each given a packet to shuffle. After shuffling, they remember the bottom card of their packet, and the deck is reassembled, The deck is now given a few cuts.

Discussing how cards can be used for divination (cartomancy) and alternative approach is suggested. Using the cards as the vehicle, the three cards are divined using a freely chosen number (arithmancy), the name of one of the cards (onomancy) and by pure intuition/instinct.
